This is my personal review without spoilers of the actual plot.
Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader”, but she knows what she really is: a monster.
When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind. Crucial information about the disease that killed most of America’s children—and turned Ruby and the others who lived into feared and hated outcasts—has survived every attempt to destroy it. But the truth is only saved in one place: a flashdrive in the hands of Liam Stewart, the boy Ruby once believed was her future—and who now wouldn’t recognize her.
As Ruby sets out across a desperate, lawless country to find Liam—and answers about the catastrophe that has ripped both her life and America apart—she is torn between old friends and the promise she made to serve the League. Ruby will do anything to protect the people she loves. But what if winning the war means losing herself?
I liked this book much more than the first one although a lot of the plot was very similar to the first. It’s cool how much the author has developed from the first to this book. She’s become rawer and a lot more brutal. Ruby’s change is phenomenal and her development is badass. The trilogy is now able to compete with the bigger titles such as Divergent, The hunger Games and The Maze Runner. Alexandra was lacking a bit in the character department but now that we’ve seen the change in not only Ruby but Liam and Chubs as well, I can’t wait to see how the last book will end. We are introduced to a few new characters that stick with us toward the end and you know it was fine to get to know some new faces whilst staying in touch with the old crew from the first. I wasn’t bored with any of the characters this time around.
The biggest difference from this one and the first is how unpredictable this one is. The first one was predictable down to the last small detail. However, this second installment is just full of surprises that will spin your head around, trying to make sense of it all. The big reveal at the end uh what a cliffhanger. Thank god, I got the last book on my shelf otherwise!
The book is so easily spoiled! Wow, I barely know how to write a review without spoiling some major things. Hm. If you liked the first one, read this! If you were a bit hesitant with the first I’d still say read this. Even if you hated the first one, this one is miles better than the first book. If you liked all those great series, I mentioned in the beginning, the hunger games etc. I’d recommend reading this because the main character in this book at least, is badass like Katniss. The book has so much great going on and it’s a rollercoaster of emotions. The book contains so much action there’s barely time for romance, we weep, we cry, we bite our nails from anxiety! This book is the whole package!
