This is my personal review without spoilers of the actual plot.

Cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse is having a streak of bad luck. First her co-worker is killed, and no one seems to care. Then she comes face to-face with a beastly creature that gives her a painful and poisonous lashing. Enter the vampires, who graciously suck the poison from her veins (like they didn’t enjoy it).

The point is: they saved her life. So when one of the bloodsuckers asks for a favor, she obliges – and soon Sookie’s in Dallas, using her telepathic skills to search for a missing vampire. She’s supposed to interview certain humans involved, but she makes one condition: the vampires must promise to behave and let the humans go unharmed. But that’s easier said than done, and all it takes is one delicious blonde and one small mistake for things to turn deadly

The feel of the book was the same but plot wise it was very different. We still got the romance, mysteries and murders but in a way, it’s still different from the first. We changed scenery and it worked really well for the book, that we weren’t limited to Bon Temps but could actually experience the characters outside of their comfort zone. It worked really well that the book doesn’t start right off the bat as well; giving us the illusion, that Sookie isn’t surrounded by problems all the time but actually has time for a normal life. If it’s been a while since you read the first, fear not, since there’s a little summary of what happened in the first, I didn’t mind that so much, even though I’d just finished the first.

The problems Sookie faces in this book is different from anything I’ve seen. I expected there to be so resistance in the community toward vampires and their integration but I didn’t expect them to be this severe, evil at best.

In addition, I never expected to meet a vampire like Godric, he is such a fantastic character! Harris has a gift when it comes to making characters and giving them personalities.

We get to know all of the characters a bit more as we progressed in the story and they all seem to have some sort of personality development going on. Bill is still my favorite character but Eric is slowly growing on me too.

The level of excitement is continuing on, these books are a masterpiece and I love every minute I spend reading! If you liked the first one, you’re definitely not going to be disappointed with reading this!
