This is my personal review without spoilers of the actual plot.
Katarina Bishop has worn a lot of labels in her short life. Friend. Niece. Daughter. Thief. But for the last two months she’s simply been known as the girl who ran the crew that robbed the greatest museum in the world. That’s why Kat isn’t surprised when she’s asked to steal the infamous Cleopatra Emerald so it can be returned to its rightful owners.
There are only three problems. First, the gem hasn’t been seen in public in thirty years. Second, since the fall of the Egyptian empire and the suicide of Cleopatra, no one who holds the emerald keeps it for long, and in Kat’s world, history almost always repeats itself. But it’s the third problem that makes Kat’s crew the most nervous and that is simply… the emerald is cursed.
Kat might be in way over her head, but she’s not going down without a fight. After all she has her best friend—the gorgeous Hale—and the rest of her crew with her as they chase the Cleopatra around the globe, dodging curses, realizing that the same tricks and cons her family has used for centuries are useless this time.
Which means, this time, Katarina Bishop is making up her own rules.
I’m so glad I started this series and I’m even happier with the fact that the second book is just as good as the first. Usually the second books suffer from a curse of being bad. The author stayed true to her first book, the language, the characters and their personalities were all the same, it was as if the author hadn’t taken a break, and was still freshly familiar with her characters.
I didn’t mind that the main plot was a bit different from the first. This wasn’t just one big case but multiple small cases that intertwined with each other, exciting. A third book has already been released in its native language, English, but not yet translated, but I may just have to buy the English version, which I’m sure will be no problem. It’s a book that even if it was published in a language I didn’t understand, I would take time out of my schedule to learn that language and then read the third book, it’s just that interesting.
I like how the book keep you on your toes and has some unanswered questions, there’s a particular question I’d love answered. Who is … In addition, what does … want? Aye, you need to read the books to know who or what I’m talking about, but trust me; it’s worth every minute of your time. If you don’t have, the books I’m sure a kind soul will sell them to you at a fair price.
This is not the last time I’ll be reading these books for sure, there’s just something splendid about these books and Katarina especially. I’m sure that if Ally Carter’s other series are as good as this that she’ll become my favorite author of all time.
Since this is a sequel I’m afraid of spoiling some of the fun for you, but you’ll need to read the first one in my Opinion, since you get to know the crew and their personalities. I’m sure that you’ll like at least one of the characters, since they are all so different, maybe that’s why I like these books so much, they are diverse, in both plot, characters and progression.
I wish I could find some more interesting works like this.
