This is my personal review without spoilers of the actual plot.
He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.
Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.
Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all.
Did someone say Black Dagger Brotherhood, uh I like that one, but wait a minute the names are a bit different. Hmm, what happened! Oh, it’s not BDB but some weird rip-off version. The book is unremarkable! Don’t get me wrong though, it wasn’t bad per say just really generic and predictable. Bad vs. Less bad. Even the personalities given to these vampires are generic. Besides Black Dagger Brotherhood, did anyone get the sense that it was built upon Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well?
The worst of the bunch is by far the Heroine Gabrielle. My God, she’s freaking annoying. She’s unable to trust strangers but as soon as hot vampire leader gives her the wink, she’s nearly stripped down begging him to ravish her. It makes me think she’s a courage less coward. Gabrielle is bringing shame to the female sex.
Overall, this was an easy yet extremely boring read, but I’m sure I’ll get to read the second one as well, because I see potential that it might somewhat become better, who knows right?
I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re a big black Dagger Brotherhood fan, you’ll just end up disappointed and bored out of your mind. The book had potential but the execution of it, failed.
