This is my personal review without spoilers of the actual plot.
For two years, Catherine Marks has been a paid companion to the Hathaway sisters—a pleasant position, with one caveat. Her charges’ older brother, Leo Hathaway, is thoroughly exasperating. Cat can hardly believe that their constant arguing could mask a mutual attraction. But when one quarrel ends in a sudden kiss, Cat is shocked at her powerful response—and even more so when Leo proposes a dangerous liaison.
She is not at all what she seems…
Leo must marry and produce an heir within a year to save his family home. Catherine’s respectable demeanor hides a secret that would utterly destroy her. But to Leo, Cat is intriguing and infernally tempting, even to a man resolved never to love again. The danger Cat tried to outrun is about to separate them forever—unless two wary lovers can find a way to banish the shadows and give in to their desires.
I were optimistic about this book and every expectation and more I had was utterly filled with satisfaction. I’ve been a sucker for Leo a long time, ever since we first met him in “Mine till Midnight” I’ve found him endearing and amusing. Since we’ve known him since the start of the series, we’ve experienced the immense character development he went through. Catherine Mars had her own similar hell going on and together they make the perfect couple ever.
This book in particular is humor filled. Leo constantly caught me off my guard with his comments here and there, which made me laugh so much. I’ve never read a book in which two characters are so different and yet so perfectly matched. Lisa Kleypas has somehow managed to pull it off. She gives us characters that we see as real people with needs and affection to give. These characters are so deep that you can’t possibly make a review of these individuals that’s on par with the book.
This is a simply book compared to some of her other stories but rich in content. If you’ve enjoyed her other books, this will be no exception. The only difference between this and the other three in “The Hathaway’s” series is that, this one nearly solely focuses upon Catherine Mars and Leo Ramsay whilst the rest of the Hathaway’s fades well and truly in the background. It was nice to see a glimpse everyone now and then but I was happy that they stayed in the background making room for a more personal interaction with our main couple.
Overall, a wonderfully awesome addition to the series. I could go on and on about how much I liked this book, but I’ll keep it short and say that, it was a joy to read. I’m excited to see how the series will end in the next book.
Btw, if you haven’t read the other three books in the series, you should start there to get an idea about how Leo is in the beginning, it will totally change your opinion about him for the better!
