This is my personal review without spoilers of the actual plot.
The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord…1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
I’m a huge fan! Everything about this book lured me in it captivated me fully and I’m so thankful for the recommendation of this book! It’s certainly not the last time I’ll read this. Some tips before you read this book: this is a very accurate historical fiction of how women were treated back in the day and some scenes may seem disturbing to some readers. The language was amazing and it was easy to imagine the journey Claire went on.
I instantly fell in love with our two main characters Claire and Jamie. The love story between those two was so magical. If you don’t like historical works but prefer romance this would still be my top recommendation. You’ll probably fall madly in love with this book and if you do, just know there’s many books in the series and more on the way but it’s worth every minute of your time. Diana Gabaldon is brilliant! She wrote a stunning love story. The books has been made into a television series and it’s amazingly similar to the book. Overall, an amazing universe that’ll swallow you completely so I hope you’ll enjoy you’re journey alongside Claire to the Scottish wilderness.
