This is my personal review without spoilers of the actual plot.
What if the person you were meant to be with could never be yours?
17-year-old Lucinda falls in love with a gorgeous, intelligent boy, Daniel, at her new school, the grim, foreboding Sword & Cross . . . only to find out that Daniel is a fallen angel, and that they have spent lifetimes finding and losing one another as good & evil forces plot to keep them apart.
Get ready to fall
The first time I read this I thought it was good but that was only because I’d only read a couple of books and this was sort of the first series ever. Now that I’ve reread it, I must say I’m rather disappointed. At first, it was decent with the whole instruction of the characters and especially Ariana was great, she was funny and crazy. Some of the other characters were okay as well but as the story progressed, they seemed to develop in a direction I didn’t like.
I don’t like the romantic part of the story. Luce is decent before meeting Daniel but the way she turns into a love sick fool is just over the top. In addition, talk about being a jerk! He is the most unlikeable person ever described in a YA book. I don’t understand why she’s pining over him the way she does. She’s so desperate that it hurts and I don’t see what he sees in her.
To be honest I like how the school is being described. I love how detailed everything is and it’s nice to know that it isn’t the real world in a way. Because that way the whole world building problem isn’t an issue. Now I don’t like the monologues that Luce seem to be having all the time! Hearing about her emotions did my head in and frankly, annoyed and bored me to death. I’m sorry to say it, but this isn’t the new Twilight, I’m sorry!
The concept was really well thought off with Angels but unlike Cynthia Hand’s trilogy Unearthly, this isn’t as well done.
I’m in love with that cover it’s so beautiful!
