This is my personal review without spoilers of the actual plot.
Serafina, daughter of Isabella, Queen of Miromara, has been raised with the expectation – and burden – that she will someday become ruler of the oldest civilization of the merfolk. On the eve of the Dokimí ceremony, which will determine if she is worthy of the crown, Sera is haunted by a strange dream that foretells the return of an ancient evil. But her nightmare is forgotten the next day as she diligently practices her songspell; eagerly anticipates a reunion with her best friend, Neela; and anxiously worries about Mahdi, the crown prince of Matali, and whether his feelings toward her and their future betrothal have changed. Most of all, she worries about not living up to her mother’s hopes.
The Dokimí proceeds, a dazzling display of majesty and might, until a shocking turn of events interrupts it: an assassin’s arrow wounds Isabella. The realm falls into chaos, and Serafina’s darkest premonitions are confirmed. Now she and Neela must embark on a quest to find the assassin’s master and prevent a war between the mer nations. Their search will lead them to other mermaid heriones scattered across the six seas. Together they will form an unbreakable bond of sisterhood as they uncover a conspiracy that threatens their world’s very existence.
I’ve never been more positive by a book then this. My god, its pure fantasy on a very high level. At first I thought; this is shit. It takes so getting used to the language. The author made many phrases and names for things that you’ll need to look up on the last few pages of the book.
It’s so intelligent and clever this story. I fell in love with the deep see and all it contains. It’s so beautiful. Every little coral leaf becomes alive in the text and I’m about to burst with positive attitude.
Our main character is cool. She’s the girl every girl is dreaming of becoming. Her development in the story is just amazing. I love a strong character with bone in his/ her nose.
This book got the whole package. It’s funny, sweet, and extremely interesting. Beside the start being a bit tricky, there’s not one negative thing about this book. It’s a YA fantasy with a lot of drama and dealing with adulthood. We got the battle of dealing with who you are and whom you’re supposed to be. In addition, the notorious battle between good and evil. Finally, you’ll actually find an interesting twist here and there. It’s not always, whom you expect to be the bad person that is.
If you like, a story filled with mysteries, action and conflicts I’d say this is your best bet at getting a fulfilling reading experience. The series consists of four books and I can’t wait to read them all.
Give yourself the pleasure of reading this book!
